Welcome to our FAQ page! Here you will find the answers to our most frequently asked questions.

How much will it cost to paint my house?

In Vancouver, most houses are different from the house next door. Exterior painting of a home generally costs between $4,000 and $8,000.  Larger homes, more ornate, and older homes requiring more preparation will cost more than a straight stucco home with vinyl windows. If you are planning on painting your home, we are happy to meet you at a time that is convenient for you, to talk to you about preparation, scope, and colours that will deliver on your dreams and satisfy your budget to firm up a price.

Do you have a project minimum?

We do. It is $750, with preparation, dry time, first coating, dry time, and second coating, $750 is the cost to get someone out. This works out to about a day’s worth of painting, but sometimes on smaller jobs, it may require a repeat visit or two to complete the project.

What is the average cost of painting a bedroom?

Painting an average-sized bedroom will cost between $400 and $500. That includes walls, ceiling, and trim, but does not include the closet(s).

Does CertaPro Painters® of Vancouver provide free painting estimates?

We do, and if you are planning to paint this year, we want to meet with you to discuss your project and provide you with a firm price.  We want to educate you on the key factors that go into your painting project, collaborate with you as to what is the right plan for your project, and communicate with you in a detailed format the steps and recommendations for your home.

How long is an estimate good for?

Estimates are guaranteed for a period of 60 days from the date of the estimate.  Sometimes we can meet the quoted price if our costs have not changed beyond 60 days but we will always need to check.  We have all your homes’ measurements on file so it would only take a moment to check and adjust if required you want to book your project beyond 60 days of receiving the quote.

How much do you charge per square foot?

This question has a wide range of answers because every project is different. It only applies to interiors and generally ranges from $2 to $6 per square foot of floor space.  Variables that would impact the price would be the amount being painted (ceilings, walls, and trim), or just the walls.  How complex is the access, how significant is the prep and how many coats are required to cover in cases of colour change.  The most significant costs of painting are driven by items that take time to paint, like closets and the amount of trim to be painted.  Our recommendation is to meet with us, we want to understand your vision and can work with you and make recommendations that will meet your budget.

Is there anything that can change the cost of a project after a customer receives a quote?

Very rarely does something come up that would affect the price of a quote with CertaPro Painters®. If the price of painting changes, there are generally three reasons.  If the customer adds to the scope that was quoted upon, if the customer chooses a colour that takes more than the number of coats specified to achieve proper coverage, finally if there is an unforeseen circumstance that was not known or visible at the time of the quote.

How much paint do you need to paint a home?

Every room on the inside of your home will use about half a gallon to 2 gallons of paint depending on the size of the room.  Walls generally use more than ceilings and trim requires the least amount of paint.  If you were to paint everything in a single room you would for sure need 3 gallons(for the walls, ceiling, and trim). If you use the same paint in multiple rooms, the costs would be less as extra paint from one room would be used in the next.

For exteriors, the average paint usage would be 5 to 25 gallons.  Five gallons would represent painting just the trim on a medium-sized home.  25 gallons would generally be used in painting trim and siding on an average home.

When is the best time to paint?

The best time to paint is when it is most convenient for your schedule.  For exteriors, we are limited with seasonality.  We schedule work from April 15th to October 15th.  During colder seasons we use faster-drying paints that are good for temperatures above 2 degrees.  When you book with CertaPro Painters®, your place in line stays the same.  We have to work around the weather, and it sometimes causes delays, that is the only factor that would cause a delay.  When we start your project you should know that we are only on your job and work every sunny day Monday to Friday (and sometimes on weekends) until your project is complete.

How often should people paint their homes?

In Vancouver, people paint their homes between 6 and 10 years.  This is driven by their preferences (some customers are very proactive and paint every 7 years without fail).  Other customers paint when they start seeing peeling.  Older wooden trim tends to require more painting closer to every 7 years, whereas newer stucco can last as long as 10 years.

How long does it take to paint a home?

We have several crews of different sizes because all homes are different.  An average home in Vancouver would take approximately a week to two weeks to paint.  We commit to working on your home every sunny day during the workweek and will not leave until your project is finished.  Because we have a number of crews, we can pair up the best technical crew for your home and the best crew for a fit with you to ensure you have an excellent customer experience.

Are you insured?

Yes, we carry $5,000,000 of liability insurance and have had WorkSafe BC coverage for 19 years.
